December 14, 2012

Today was our last class before Exams so we went over the review. It was not much of a review for me because I had already got down all of my notes in OneNote the night before to get a head start. It was also the last day our Japanese students were here and it was very hard not to cry. I will have to get over the fact that they must leave and focus on acing this exam.

November 26, 2012

As I had expected, I got a 100% on my Pop Test. Mr. Schick handed out all of our tests today and he rung a bell if you got a 90% and two bells for a perfect score. I was not positive I was going to get one, but I had most of the information either on my blog or in my head. I knew the answer to every question so I was expecting a good grade. This is helpful because I am starting to do better in all my classes because I am focusing more and it is really starting to show. We discussed a lot about a man named Gerry Sandusky who is going to speak to us for an assembly tomorrow because of the difficult hardships he has to go through because of his name, which is alike Jerry Sandusky's, a sex offender. We also began to watch a video about the economy mostly in China. I am planning on posting my notes when I get more written down since there was not a lot of time left in class.

November 15, 2012

Today was our never ending class, however it did not seem as long as it usually does. Last night we had a choice to work with a partner or alone on an assignment where we had to research the political geography on the countries we are learning about. In class we went over each of the countries and listed the information that is necessary to know for a quiz on Monday.  We went through it all so everyone would have the correct facts and check their work to study for.

France does not have a specific day of independence. There are several in its category such as 1789. France is the largest country in Western Europe and the third-largest in Europe. France is a developed country ranking fifth in the world and the second largest economy and the wealthiest nation in Europe. France borders Spain, Italy. Belgium, Luxemburg, Germany, Switzerland, Monaco, Andorra, Suriname, and Brazil. Conquered by a number of people.

Special Day

Today is my birthday as well as Wilfred's. The class sung a tone death version of happy birthday to the both of us and we shared the happy birthday hat for wearing if for half the class and then we switched. We did not learn anything new today because Mr. Schick handed out the "pop quiz" that we had. It was not that much of a pop quiz since everyone new about it by the time class came. I knew I was going to fail, but surprisingly I did not. For every A, Mr. Schick wrong the bell and we had very few A's in the class, but at least I was one of them, which is good.

November 8, 2012

Today, I had a shadow. Most of the time we only have one shadow in our class, but today Austin Ross had a shadow too. We had our four hour long class as we do every Thursday, and I feel it was quite successful. We talked about what was needed to talk about and we finished our facts on the ten world leaders relative to the United States. We talked a lot about Obama mostly. Mr. Schick also explained why the United States doesn't bomb all of the cruel countries because they are also our biggest trade services. If we were to bomb Saudi Arabia because of the way they treat woman, we would have no main source for oil and almost everything in the United States is made from China.

Barrack Obama
The one good thing I would say about Barrack Obama is that he is the first African American United States President and I give him respect for that. He is also in favor of homosexual rights and I agree with him on that.
I do not think Barrack Obama is a good leader cause he was not even born in the Uni ted States and his Obama Care campaign is unfair and unconstitutional.

Enrique Pena- Mexico
Good leadership
He wrote a book saying he wants to broaden economy of mexico because they need more jobs
Hu Jintao-
I feel that Hu is a rather decent leader for China from reading a very long list of his political experience in office because he has been a part of China's government since 1964.
A way I do not feel he is a good leader is that is lists he is reserved and bland. This could mean that most of the time China is unaware of his decision making and he is not open with what is going on or what might happen.
President Shri Pranab Mukherjee
He appears to be a desired leader in India from his record of his five decades of service in government and his many elections from his people. Each time he is elected a higher leader and it was continuous so obviously he is very well liked by his people.
A reason for him to be a bad leader is his background of his father's term as a congress leader. His father had been sent to jail for his poor role in India's struggle for Independence. This could mean Mukherjee will follow in his foot steps.
President Hamid Karzai
Karzai would be a world leader I do not want to be apart of the United States since there has been numerous American troops over in Afghanistan for several years and if he was a good leader towards our benefit, the war would have been over by now or it would not have been started in the first place.
He may be a good president for his country alone because he was elected in office for a two terms in office.
President Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad
You would think Ahmadi-Nejad was not the most favored since he was removed from election and lost his first run, but he became the mayor and later on president for two terms.
Mahmoud seems to be a promising leader from the fact that he wished to stay in his home and denied the VIP seat on the Presidential plane. This shows he is not in office for money.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
I feel that Netanyahu would be considered a good representative for Israel because he had fought for Israel and he was even shot.
Another reason for Netanyahu to be a good leader is that his brother was the commander of Israel forces therefor they both must be good Israelites to be two important leaders.
Angela Merkel
From reading Angela's profile, she seems to be a remarkable leader since she is the very first woman to become the Chancellor of Germany.
Knowledge is also a very important thing for a major leader of any sort to have and Merkel had been a Physical Chemist before running which is a difficult study to master.
Prime Minister David Cameron
Cameron is apart of many rolls in office such as Prime Minister of the United KingdomFirst Lord of the TreasuryMinister for the Civil Service and Leader of the Conservative Party. I would seem almost obvious for a man to be noted as so many important rolls for a country that he is beneficial. If he were to be a negative leader, the smart thing for a country to do is vote him out or not vote in the first place.
I would not have a problem with David Cameron becoming an alliance with the United States because of his experience and loyalty and desired leadership in the UK.
President François Hollande
Hollande was the first President to be elected without having prior experience as a Minister and / or Junior Minister since 1920. This statement could lead to trusting issues of whether the fact is a good or bad thing.
Hollande supports same sex marriage which would lead to conclusions that he has good rights and meanings.
President Dilma Rousseff
Dilma is the first woman to hold office in Brazil as well as the first woman to become Chief of Staff to the President of Brazil. To become the first woman of a country leadership is a major compliment as it would take more than a man's run for office as it is a woman since a country had only been ran by men in history.
I would like Dilma to become an ally to the United States because it would be beneficial to our country to show that women can do the job just as well as men and encourage other women to stand up towards equality.
Hugo Chavez
I think Chavez would represent as a good leader because of his action to go for what he believes in. He was unhappy with the Venezuelan political system, and therefor he did something about it.
Chavez is an enemy towards the United States and therefor it could lead to negativity towards his country because of the beliefs he does have and what he will do to get what he wants. I do not agree with things our country does, but there are numerous things that are beneficial to our citizens that Chavez may not see.
Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz
I think he would be a good leader towards Saudi Arabia because of his family heritage in leadership. Since he is a king, he is part of a monarchy and he is one of the many sons of the founders of Saudi Arabia.
I would not like for Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz to be a part with the United States because of his poor leadership. Saudi Arabia has next to no valuable rights such as no religious freedom and women are treated unfairly. This would only lead to controversy with the United States.

Mr. Schick is back! The reason he was not here was because he had a sore throat. I wonder if he was sick because of Sandy. There are a lot of people absent just like Mr. Schick and I am actually very jealous. In class Mr. Schick handed out the test we took last Friday and we went over the assignment we had to do after we completed our test. We talked about exams and the overall agenda for the next few weeks. We went through all of the right answers for the Political Geography assignment where we had to find ten of the most relative leaders of countries towards the United States. Most of the names were foreign, obviously, and very funny and difficult to pronounce. Michael Imbierowicz also had a shadow and his name was Will. Our other Will was absent and that was very depressing.

November 1, 2012

Today is the very first day of November and it is the first day we have been to school this entire week because of the hurricane. It took me forever to get out of bed this morning because I was so used to the luxury of sleeping in. I did not have to do any of my homework because I had first mod off this morning for an hour. It was shortened because we had a mass for All Saints Day. I believe all of our classes are shortened now because of it. We had Human Geo second and third mod and we skipped advisory. Mr. Schick was not here today so we went to room 104 with Mrs. Hugo. I have never had her as a teacher, but she is one of the moderators in STEM. In class, we looked over our test we took the last time with Mr. Fendryk and after going over it, we were assigned to finish our Political Geography. I had already finished mine for homework so that is why I am doing this blog right now.

Twin Towers Part II

Today, our school was supposed to get bombed and fortunately it was not. I was kind of hoping it would mean we would not have to go to school anymore since it was bombed, but I guess it is never a good thing to wish to bomb a school. All of our classes today are shortened and I am extremely happy about it. We do not have time to do anything real hefty so it is going by quickly for me and I like that a lot. The only problem is that I did not get to finish my lunch so that was upsetting. For Human Geo class, we went to our normal classroom, but Mr. Schick was not there. How upsetting. We were sent to room 321 and waiting at least five or ten minutes for our sub, which I did not mind cause that added to the less time for class. When the sub got here, we were assigned to make 15 definitions that could make up our test which I need to study for for Friday.

2. What are the three cultural characteristics?
  • language
  • religion

Mr. Schick's Hate List

Today in class, I learned a lot. At the very beginning, I am not sure how, but we started to tell horror stories about our adventures with stinkbugs. Mr. Schick's story almost made me want to pass out because I absolutely hate stink bugs. Even though I am a billion times their size, they scare me. I would not be surprised   if I have nightmares about them. We finally realized that we should start getting on task and learn what we are supposed to learn so we turned out attention to the Smart Board Mr. Schick had his power point shown on. As expected, we took a good ten or fifteen minutes talking about and trying to figure out how to slide the screen up and down. You can add that as number two on the list of Mr. Schick's pet peeves. Then as he started where we left off the last class, everyone was on there computer, but not me of course. So that took another five minutes to discuss Mr. Schick's hatred of open computers. #3. Then finally, for the rest of the class, we finished learning about our five religions and then we carried on with our lives because the bell rang.

Octubre 15, 2012

Today we did a lot of note taking. After all of the groups had finished presenting their power points on their research of the first settlers, it was Mr. Schick's turn to present. Our homework from Friday was due by midnight on Saturday and we had to look up the five main religions in the world. It was fairly easy and I knew a lot already coming from a Catholic School. In class, we finished the lesson about world characteristics and continued it with going over one of the main characteristics, religion. There are many types of religions in this world and Christianity is the most populated. There are over two billion Christians and the rest are close in comparison. There are many things that can bring our world together, but there are most likely even more ways to separate each ethnic group through discrimination. We are all from the same species, how is it that we are so different, we feel the need to kill each other for it.

Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Judaism - and answer these questions about each one.

  • When and where was this religion founded?
  • Is it monotheistic or polytheistic?
  • If they have a holy book, what is it?
  • How many followers does this religion claim?
  • Who is the central figure of this religion?
  • What is the geographical concentration of this religion?
Christianity approximately began around 30 AD in Palestine (http://library.thinkquest.org/28505/christianity/print.html). The belief of Christianity is that there is one overall God, therefor it is monotheistic. The Christians worship one God and one God only so He is their central figure of their religion along with His son, Jesus Christ. There are over two billion Christians all around the world all and they all study the books of the Bible containing sacred writings of events in their faith (http://www.pewforum.org/christian/global-christianity-exec.aspx). Christianity is mainly practiced geographically in North and South America.
The founder of the Islamic religion was the Prophet Muhammad in 622 in Saudi Arabia (http://www.religioustolerance.org/isl_intr.htm) The Islamic worshipers are know as Muslims and they are monotheistic  They believe in one God and they call him Allah (http://www.nicheoftruth.org/pages/who_do_muslim_worship.htm). He is the central figure of their religion and they follow only him. The Muslims believe in the Quran, which is a sacred book authored by Allah that was made known to Muhammad (wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn). The Islamic religion takes approximately 23% of the world's population with over 1.6 billion believers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muslim_world). The Islamic religion is mainly practiced North of Africa.
Buddhism was founded in Northern India around the fourth or fifth century (http://answerplease.infoplease.com/node/33571). Buddhists are neither monotheistic nor polytheistic because they do not believe in a God or gods. Some of the Buddhists can believe in a God, gods, or no God and still be a Buddhist follower. Buddhism is most popular in the center of Asia.
Hinduism was founded in 1500 BC in India (http://www.religionfacts.com/hinduism/fastfacts.htm).Hinduism is polytheistic meaning they have many gods (http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_many_gods_are_there_in_Hinduism). Hinduism has four vedas which are the holy books they study, the Rig Veda, Sama Veda, Yajur Veda and Atharva Veda (http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/). There are 900 million Hindus in the world and they all worship twenty-eight main gods (http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_many_Gods_do_Hindus_have). Hinduism is mainly practice South of Asia.
Abraham founded Judiasm in Isreal around 2000 BC (http://wiki.answers.com/Q/When_was_Judaism_founded). Judiasm is a monothestic religion because Jews only believe in one God (http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Is_Judaism_monotheistic_or_polytheistic). Jews have a holy book called Torah and there are approximately 13.4 million Jews in the world (http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Does_judaism_have_any_holy_books). Jews only follow one God but they have several names for Him such as Adonay or Elohim (http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_do_Jews_call_their_God). Judiasm is practiced mostly in Israel.

October 11, 2012

Today my group finished their presentation on Christopher Columbus and for the rest of the period we listened to Mr. Schick's. As always, our class is hilarious and it makes everything ten times easily to learn because I enjoy the class and I want to be there. Yesterday, I forgot to bring my book at home and I needed to request permission to look at the slides, but I remembered to bring it today so I am going to put all of my notes as a lesson learned from our last test.

October 10, 2012

Today we presented our second power point project of the year with groups. I was very interested in this assignment and I was glad that my group had to do research on Christopher Columbus. I thought that he was  a well rounded and decent guy until I learned about the things he did to the Indians when he arrived in America. We also learned about the Vikings and the Native Americans. Most people are taught that Christopher Columbus discovered America but in fact, he did not. He was the third person to find America and the Indians were first. They were nomadic people so it was not so much as an accident. The Vikings like to move place to place with violence. Christopher Columbus "accidentally" found America. I think that everyone's presentation was well written and easy to follow.

October 8, 2012

Today was the luckiest day of my life. I am very fond of where I sit in Human Geography class and I love the people who I sit near. I am probably the luckiest person in the class as of today because I have the privilege to sit next to our new student from Nigeria, Michael. Michael is really nice and I introduced myself to him and we worked together on our new group project. I could not have asked for a better group to do the assignment because they are all willing to do the work and I know they will do it. The assignment is fun because I have never really got into detail about Christopher Columbus and I want to know more. I am actually really excited to present tomorrow.
